The incident took place shortly after 10 p.m. outside the Vermont Plaza apartments on Vermont Avenue, Sgt. Monica McMenamin said.

The two-man unit was responding to a call in the apartment complex and came out to find the car “smoking, and then it caught on fire.”

No injuries were reported, McMenamin said.

The unit was there with several other units because of a report of a man with a gun, McMenamin said. That person was not located, but another man was taken in on outstanding warrants.
