Police arrested a man who was wielding a samurai sword at three employees of a pizza shop in Lower Township.

Ryan A. Crump, 43, was arrested at the American Deli, located on Bayshore Road in the Villas section of the township, at about 6:40 p.m. Monday.

Police confronted Crump and coordinated for the three employees to escape through the rear of the building unharmed.

"A coordinated effort between Communications Operator Gamble and Patrolman Kevin Boyle Jr. are credited with the rapid escape of the three employees," according to a statement from police today.

Crump was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of terroristic threats, and weapons offenses. He was taken to Cape  May County jail and bail was set at $35,000 cash.
