LOWER TOWNSHIP — A 24-year-old church youth group leader has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Lower Township police said Monday.

Jonatan Nunez, of Heights Place in Vineland, was arrested and charged with the aggravated sexual assault of a 14-year-old female, police said.

Police said they learned of the alleged assault Wednesday and conducted an investigation that found Nunez had accompanied the victim to a youth function during the week of March 17.

After the event, he was reportedly alone with the victim when the sexual assault occurred, police said.

A warrant was issued for Nunez’s arrest, and he was taken into custody Thursday. He is being held at the Cape May County jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Police did not say at which church Nunez worked.

The investigation was conducted by Detective First Class Michael Majane and Detective Brian McEwing of the Lower Township Police Department.
