ATLANTIC CITY – An Absecon man was arrested and charged of possession of a handgun Wednesday after an officer stopped a vehicle driven by his friend, a police report said.
According to the report, Atlantic City Officer Anthony Abrams was patrolling the area of the 1300 block of Magellan Avenue when he recognized a driver in the vehicle next to his as Fateen Gaines, an Atlantic City man Abrams knew had had his driving privileges suspended.
Gaines allegedly sped up and tried to elude Abrams, but was unsuccessful and a subsequent stop resulted in the arrest of Bowman, the passenger, who was found to be in possession of a handgun, the report said.
While being taken into custody, Bowman allegedly punched Abrams in the chest. He was quickly subdued and taken into custody.
Officer Joshua L. Vadell also sustained a minor injury in his right shoulder during the struggle to gain control of Bowman, the report said.
Bowman was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, aggravated assault on police and resisting arrest.
He was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility and bail was set by Judge Billie Moore at $50,000.00.
A female was also in the vehicle at the time of the stop. She was interviewed and released. Gaines was issued two traffic summons and was released.
