ATLANTIC CITY - A 26-year-old Brigantine female died after being struck by a vehicle on Atlantic Avenue at 3:49 a.m. Friday.

Meanwhile, police have charged the driver, Kenneth D. Barts, 21, of Egg Harbor Township, with reckless driving and DWI.

Police said a vehicle that struck the female pedestrian crashed into a tree near the intersection of Mississippi and Atlantic Avenue.

Barts was was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, police said.

Barts has also charged with violation of a provisional drivers license, police said.

Police were at the scene and Atlantic Avenue had been closed from Mississippi to Florida Avenues for more than three hours.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin, police said. An autopsy is scheduled at Shore Medical Center.

The accident is still under investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
