HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — Police have arrested two men following a string of burglaries dating to mid-summer in at least three Atlantic County municipalities.

Matthew Henry was arrested Monday, and Walter Lang III was arrested Tuesday, police said. Both are 27-year-old Mays Landing residents.

The alleged thefts occurred in Hamilton, Galloway and Mullica townships.

Mullica police Chief John Thompson said the thefts were daytime residential burglaries that occurred primarily in Hamilton. He said one occurred in Mullica.

Police have investigated the burglaries since mid-summer, Hamilton Detective Sgt. Chris Gehring said. Thefts included scrap metal and what Gehring said was “a lot of jewelry.”

Police were able to return some of the stolen items, Gehring said, but some of the scrap and jewelry had already been melted down.

Both Henry and Lang were in the Atlantic County jail Wednesday. Henry was held on $5,000 bail for possessing burglary tools, the jail said.

Lang was held on no bail for one charge of receiving stolen property, the jail said, and $55,000 for the other charges, which included theft by unlawful taking, conspiracy, criminal trespass, burglary and theft.

Gehring said the investigation remains open, and he asked anyone with information to call him at 609-625-2700, ext. 570.
