ATLANTIC CITY — A family dispute involving smashed windows, a stabbing and an attempted assault with a car led to several arrests and a woman being sought by police, officials said Thursday.
Police responded about 6 p.m. Monday to a report of a fight between two sisters. Delisha DeBerry had gone to her sister’s house to fight her, but when Demaris DeBerry refused, Delisha DeBerry smashed the back window of her sister’s car, according to police.
At 6:51 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of North Delaware Avenue for another report of a fight between family members. Delisha DeBerry had smashed a back window to the residence and left before officers arrived, police said.
Officers responded at 7:17 p.m. to Mississippi and Hamilton avenues and found another sister, Dashima DeBerry, had attempted to crash her car into Demaris DeBerry’s car but lost control, jumped the curb and crashed into a stop sign, police said. Demaris DeBerry then tried to run her sister over as she tried to get out of her car, police said.
According to police, Demaris DeBerry’s passenger, Douglas DeBerry, got out of the car with a baseball bat and allegedly struck Dashima DeBerry’s windshield as well as her passenger, whose name was not provided, with the bat. Dashima DeBerry then stabbed Douglas DeBerry, police said. Demaris and Douglas DeBerry left the scene before officers arrived.
Officers found Demaris DeBerry on Delaware Avenue and took her into custody.
At the Public Safety Building, another fight took place between family members, including Douglas DeBerry, who was in a hospital gown after being treated at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for the stab wound. He was taken into custody.
Demaris DeBerry, 28, of Atlantic City, was charged with assault by auto. Douglas DeBerry, 20, of Atlantic City, was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and criminal mischief. The two were taken to the Atlantic County jail.
Delisha DeBerry, of Atlantic City, was charged with two counts of criminal mischief and issued a summons.
Dashima DeBerry, 21, of Absecon, is wanted on charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and assault by auto, police said.
