PLEASANTVILLE — A teenage mother from the city is in jail after the police chief found her with two loaded handguns — inside a stroller with her infant — police said.
After reports of a man with a gun near the police station just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, police Chief Jose Ruiz stopped three male pedestrians in the area of First Street and Lake Place, Capt. Sean Riggin said. One man fled while the other two were taken in for questioning.
As police searched for the third man, Ruiz saw a woman who had been seen earlier with the two males, pushing a baby stroller.
Inside the stroller was her 8-month-old child — along with two loaded handguns, police said.
Arshanta Matos, 19, was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon along with endangering the welfare of a child. She was jailed on $50,000 full cash bail.
The names of the two males taken in for questioning were not released since they had not yet been charged with any crime, Riggin said.
