The arraignment date for Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has been moved to May 1.

Rice, 27, was originally scheduled to appear in court April 28.

The Pro Bowl NFL running back is accused of striking his now-wife unconscious inside a casino elevator early Feb. 15.

Video surveillance from inside the elevator has not been released publicly but shows the incident.

Both Rice and Janay Palmer were originally charged with simple assault. But after the case went to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office for review, the charge against Palmer was dismissed and the charge against Rice was raised to third-degree aggravated assault with serious bodily injury.

The charge can carry a three- to five-year prison term, but there is no presumption of incarceration with a third-degree crime.

Rice is expected to appear before Superior Court Judge Michael Donio at 8:45 a.m. in Atlantic County Criminal Court in Mays Landing.
