At 10:20 a.m., officers responded to the Knife and Fork Inn in the 3600 block of Atlantic Avenue, where a woman said a man took her handbag and ran away.

A witness provided officers with a description of the man. Officer Autumn Mason arrested Neil Rivera, 36, at Boston and Pacific avenues but did not recover the handbag, police said.

Officers monitoring the call in the department’s new surveillance center began to track the movements of Rivera before police arrived. Officers said they saw Rivera at Hartford and Pacific Avenues place the bag in a nearby trash can.

Rivera was released on a summons with a future court date.
