EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — A township officer was injured in a chain-reaction three-car crash Tuesday morning in the Bargaintown section of the township.

Police responded at 8:49 a.m. to the area of Bargaintown Road and Poplar Avenue for an officer-involved crash, Lt. Robert Gray said in a statement.

Officer Robert Moran, 37, was driving a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria police car south on Bargaintown Road when James Bordonaro, 75, of Egg Harbor Township, drove through the stop sign at Poplar Avenue into Moran’s path, Gray said.

Bordonaro, driving a Hyundai Elantra, attempted to cross the intersection from the stop sign on westbound Poplar Avenue to go south on Steelmanville Road.

The impact sent Moran’s car across the intersection, where it crashed into Ricardo Figueroa, 55, of Egg Harbor Township, Gray said. Figueroa, driving a VW, was stopped at the stop sign on northbound Steelmanville Road.

Moran suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Shore Medical Center to be treated, Gray said.

Police issued Bordonaro a summons for failure to yield at a stop sign.

Officer Kevin Devlin of the Egg Harbor Township Police Traffic Safety Unit investigated.
