Over three inches of rain fell in parts of South Jersey from a storm system that brought rain between Saturday and Monday. Even though the rain is gone, the Maurice and Great Egg Harbor Rivers are dealing with spotty flood waters on Tuesday morning.
The Maurice River in Vineland and the Great Egg Harbor River near Folsom have both risen above their banks. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for both of these rivers until 1:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., respectively. They are in minor flood stage Tuesday morning, the lowest of the flood stages. In minor flood stage, you can expect:
- Roadways covered in water
- Lawns and parkland inundated with water
- No water in structures, homes or business (save extreme circumstances)
I will monitor the situation to see if the flood warning should be extended.
In terms of the weather forecast, expect plenty of sunshine Tuesday morning. This will give way to some clouds this afternoon, especially south of the Atlantic City Expressway. High temperatures will be in the upper 30s during the afternoon, chilly for this February day.
