A new government report has found that last year's sequester led to only one federal layoff.

The Government Accounting Office report said that in all of the federal government, the Justice Department alone laid off one staff member as a result of the $85 billion in automatic spending cuts known as the sequester, according to a story on thehill.com.

The Obama administration last year claimed that sequestration would be devastating to the government and to the wider economy.

The automatic cuts were partially rolled back in a December budget deal but are set to return in fiscal 2016 unless Congress votes for higher spending levels.
