HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — No one was hurt in a Saturday evening fire in a condo at the Woodlands complex, just west of the Hamilton Mall.

Firefighters were still inside the unit and light smoke was visible at 8:45 p.m. Officials would give few details but confirmed no one was injured.

A manager at the Woodlands said no one was living in the burned condo.

Jose Paz, a security officer at the complex, said ambulances and firetrucks got to the scene quickly.

But there was still smoke damage, and possibly more, to at least two neighboring condos, he added.

“Thank God no one was hurt,” Paz said.

Abdul Fletcher moved into one of those condos, right next door to the burned unit, just three weeks ago.

He said he’s scheduled to get married next Saturday, and had expected to live in the Woodlands. But he wasn’t sure his condo will be livable now.

Fire crews from Mays Landing, Laureldale and Cologne were still at the scene shortly after 9 p.m. They said they were waiting for investigators to arrive to determine a cause.
