Bridgeton police say they arrested a homeless man on Wednesday after the man allegedly assaulted a fire department member who was rendering him aid.

The department's staff was treating Lloyd J. Selfridge for an apparent seizure at the city’s public library when Selfridge became angry and started using profanity, police said.

Selfridge, 52, then allegedly struck a fire department member with his elbow as he was being placed in an ambulance.

Selfridge was charged with aggravated assault and placed in the Cumberland County jail in Bridgeton on $2,500 bail.
