Almost a hundred weather balloons are launched twice a day from across the country to measure weather conditions high up in the sky.

But none are regularly released over South Jersey, and none are normally equipped with GPS and a GoPro camera.

On Sunday April 2, that changed, when nine year old Reese Gurwicz of Linwood, his dad Mitchell, 46, and sister Ella, 11, launched a weather balloon he built for a school science project.

The GoPro camera captured the entire 150 mile flight across Pennsylvania and South Jersey, as the balloon soared to heights almost 17 miles high before landing in Pittsgrove Township in Salem County.
