Democratic congressional candidate Bill Hughes challenged Congressman Frank LoBiondo, R-2, to eight debates before the November election.

Hughes sent LoBiondo a letter last week issuing the same challenge.

“Providing voters a chance to see both U.S. Congressional candidates standing on stage together is a proud New Jersey custom that I am determined to continue,” Hughes said in a news release. “I hope Congressman LoBiondo will agree to join me. I will make myself available to debate him anytime, anywhere.”

Jason Galanes, LoBiondo's campaign spokesman, said the campaign had not received any letter regarding debates from Hughes' campaign.

"That said, we have received a number of requests from venues and groups across the district to host a debate which we are working through," Galanes said. "Congressman LoBiondo fully expects to debate his opponents prior to November’s election."

The general election is Nov. 4.
