ATLANTIC CITY — Three city men face drug and weapons charges — and one faces child-endangerment charges — after police investigated gunshots early Saturday, police said.
Police said officers responded at 4:17 a.m. to the unit block of S. South Carolina Avenue after a ShotSpotter alert. Police found two vehicles had been shot, but no witnesses came forward and no one was reported to be wounded, police said.
Atlantic City police and Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office detectives identified three suspects, police said: Eugene McKethan, 32, Johnny Morgan, 34, and Anthony Hamlett, 38, all of Atlantic City.
McKethan was arrested on Pacific Avenue and Morgan was arrested after he tried to post bail for McKethan, police said.
Authorities found Hamlett in a Pacific Avenue motel room and arrested him, police said.
Police executed search warrants on Morgan’s apartment on South Iowa Avenue and on a vehicle the suspects used, police said, and a loaded handgun was found in the vehicle.
Police found a stolen loaded handgun, ammunition for both guns, 11.3 grams of cocaine, 30 bags of heroin, 2.2 ounces of unpackaged heroin, and heroin-packaging materials in the apartment, authorities said.
The gun and heroin were in a room with an infant in a “pack n play,” and three other juveniles were in the apartment, police said. The state Division of Child Protection and Permanency was called and responded, police said.
McKethan is charged with aggravated assault, two counts possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, conspiracy, receiving stolen property, and certain person not to possess a weapon.
Hamlett is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, conspiracy, receiving stolen property, certain person not to possess a weapon.
Morgan is charged with aggravated assault, two counts possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, two counts unlawful possession of a weapon, conspiracy, receiving stolen property, certain person not to possess a weapon, two counts possession of a controlled dangerous substance, two counts of possessing CDS with the intent to distribute, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense, and endangering the welfare of children.
All three were taken to the Atlantic County jail.
