Meteorologist Joe Martucci and Alex Sheppard

Meteorologist Joe Martucci and Alex Sheppard, Production Manager of Sheppard Farms, in Lawrence Township.

New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher today highlighted the Jersey Fresh season by harvesting asparagus at Sheppard Farms in Lawrence Township. I met up with the Secretary to view to emphasize that locally grown produce and other farm products are now appearing in farmers markets and stores around the state.

As it turns out, New Jersey has the fourth highest production of any state when it comes to asparagus. In fact, Sheppard Farms is the largest producer of asparagus in New Jersey. I talk to Alex Sheppard, who is the young in their long genealogy of farming (dating back to 1683!) to talk about the farm to table process and learn why Lawrence is a South Jersey Special.

After Lawrence Township, we went to Fairfield Township. We thought Upper Deerfield has a quaint post office, but check out Farifield's!

Catch the latest seven day forecast and see why the Sea Breeze part of town makes Fairfield unique in the video.

This is my first newspaper but not my first forecast for NJ. I graduated with a B.S. in Meteorology from Rutgers. Two TV internships gave me a taste for the newsroom. Then, after nearly 4 years in private NJ weather, I'm forecasting South Jersey for you.
