LOWER TOWNSHIP — Officials are investigating a brush fire that spread to a trailer Friday in the township’s Erma section.

Police and the Erma Volunteer Fire Company went to the property in the 300 block of Route 9, police said in a statement.

Officers noticed small pockets of fire in the rear of the property that appeared to spread to brush, which eventually set an unoccupied trailer on fire, police said.

Firefighters quickly put out the blaze. Representatives of the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office and police evaluated the scene Saturday, police said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident can call police at 609-886-2711 or the Fire Marshal’s Office at 609-465-2570.
