ATLANTIC CITY -- An Atlantic City man was arrested on gun and drug charges Wednesday morning following a motor vehicle stop, police said. 

Officer Anthony Abrams was on patrol at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the 400 block of South Carolina Avenue near Carver Hall.

Officer Abrams pulled the vehicle over and found three passengers. The rear seat passenger, Anthony Grant, 23, was found to be in possession of a handgun loaded with hollow point bullets. He was also in possession of cocaine and marijuana. He was placed in custody.

The driver, Robert Lee, was issued a ticket for careless driving and was released. The passenger, 45-year-old Verna Stewart of Atlantic City, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and transported to the holding facility.

Grant was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a prohibited device and possession of cocaine and marijuana. He was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Mays Landing on $100,000 bail.
