HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — Township police identified the victim in a fatal crash Wednesday morning as a Pleasantville man.

Al Nelson, 73, was killed Wednesday morning when his vehicle crossed the roadway on Route 322, traveled up an embankment and struck several trees before overturning on the eastbound shoulder, police said.

Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Rt. 322 and Malaga Road.

The right eastbound lane of Route 322 was closed between Weymouth and Malaga Roads for five hours Wednesday as police conducted an investigation and cleared the scene.

The truck Nelson was driving belongs to Egg Harbor Township-based Palmisano Delivery Service Inc. He was the sole occupant.

Assisting at the scene were Weymouth and Mizpah Fire Departments, Township of Hamilton Rescue, AtlantiCare Paramedics, NJ State Medical Examiner, New Jersey State Police Transportation Safety Bureau and NJ Department of Transportation.
