ATLANTIC CITY — About 750 people were evacuated about 11 a.m. Friday as firefighters checked a gas leak at Tennessee and Adriatic avenues, officials said.

Contractors digging for electrical lines cut a 2-inch, high-pressure gas line, Fire Chief Scott Evans said.

A four-block evacuation radius included the New York Avenue school across the street from the break.

Students and residents were allowed to return about noon, after South Jersey Gas shut off the line.
