MAYS LANDING - The man accused of killing a Trump Taj Mahal supervisor in a room off the casino floor needs to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, his public defender told the judge Tuesday.
Mark Magee, 57, is accused of shooting to death shift supervisor Ray Kot, 57, of Egg Harbor Township, on May 27. The admitted compulsive gambler allegedly blamed Kot for his losses.
Magee's attorney, Linda Tassone, said she has received all of the evidence in the case except the autopsy report, which Deputy Attorney General Yvonne Maher said was inadvertently omitted from the discovery her office provided.
Magee left his Norristown, Pa., home May 26, armed with a .38-caliber gun and intent on revenge, according to a probable cause affidavit used to search his home in Pennsylvania. After wandering the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort overnight, he found Kot, then allegedly followed him into a separate card and dice room, where the victim was shot three times.
Tassone said plea negotiations have begun, but neither she nor Maher said what offers, if any, have been made.
Superior Court Judge James Isman set the next status conference for Jan. 19, but asked that Tassone keep him apprised of her progress in getting a psychiatrist or psychologist to evaluate her client.
