ATLANTIC CITY - Three teenagers robbed an Atlantic City High School senior at knifepoint as he walked to school Wednesday morning, police said.
The 17-year-old had missed his bus and was walking from the city on Route 40 with two friends, wearing headphones plugged into his BlackBerry phone, said his father, whom the Press is not identifying to protect his son's anonymity.
At about 7:45 a.m., three males - it could not be confirmed whether they were students in the district - approached on foot and pushed the victim to the ground, police said. One of them produced a knife and demanded the phone, which the victim produced. The knife was held to the victim's throat, said his father, who confirmed his son was not injured.
The suspects then fled back toward Atlantic City, and the victim notified school security, which contacted city police. The phone was not recovered.
Officers apprehended two city residents, ages 15 and 14, on North Albany Avenue. The victim identified them as two of the suspects; the third suspect was not apprehended.
The victim's father praised the quick work of school security and city police.
The teenagers were charged with armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. They were taken to Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City.
