Atlantic County is renewing the lease for its Veterans Affairs office in Ventnor, even though federal officials are looking for a new location for their associated clinic.

County officials say the lease renewal is just a precaution and will allow the county to keep the office until a move is made.

The lease with Ventroy Associations for the office in the 6600 block of Ventnor Avenue will cost nearly $15,000 for the year.

The federal Veterans Affairs Department will not know until October, at the earliest, whether it can afford to expand its clinic at the existing location. It may also opt to move to another location.

The Atlantic County Veterans Advisory Board has endorsed a move from Ventnor to Northfield. The new site would be convenient to drivers and bus riders, and it could be ready on short notice, the board said in a prepared statement last month. Another possible site is in downtown Pleasantville.

The county Veterans Office will move where the clinic winds up, Atlantic County Administrator Gerald DelRosso said. County officials want to keep all veterans services together as part of a one-stop veterans office, he said.
