EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - The owners of Shore Mall are applying for state grant money to help with a proposed $87 million overhaul and expansion of the shopping center on the Black Horse Pike.
Egg Harbor Township committee members approved the application for the state Economic Redevelopment and Growth grant, although an amount was not included.
The mall's owner, Camp Hill, Pa,-based Cedar Shopping Centers Inc., applied for the grant in August. The application states that the owners plan to retain existing anchor tenants, but "de-mall" the rest of the enclosed mall into an open-air shopping center.
The company also states in the grant application that it will spend $23 million on road and transportation improvements, including a new full-access intersection at the extension of West Jersey Avenue to the Black Horse Pike, a "boulevard-style road network" connecting Broadway and West Jersey avenues and a reconfigured Garden State Parkway Exit 36 ramp system to provide direct access to the mall.
