The Press of Atlantic City covers high-profile juvenile cases, including murders, but also reports sentencing for other crimes, such as assaults, rapes, sexual assaults, armed robberies, arson and weapons offenses. The following juveniles' cases were recently handled in Family Court by Judge James L. Jackson.
Omar Butcher, 16, Atlantic City
Charge: Possession of cocaine with intent to
distribute.
Crime: Butcher was found in possession of cocaine he intended to distribute in Atlantic City on May 7.
Punishment: Suspended two-year sentence at the Training School for Boys. Probation until December 2010 on the Home Electronic Detention System. Must cooperate with Youth Case Management, attend the Youth Advocate Program and outpatient substance-abuse treatment, submit to periodic urine monitoring, submit to DNA typing and pay $1,070 in fines and penalties. He is restrained from the 1700 block of Arctic Avenue and will lose his driver's license for six months.
Sean Kelly, 17, Pleasantville
Charges: Terroristic threats and two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon.
Crime: Kelly threatened to commit a crime of violence upon several family members in Pleasantville on April 21. He also was found in possession of a rifle and a shotgun.
Punishment: Suspended18-month sentence at the Training School for Boys. Probation for 18 months. Must cooperate with Youth Case Management, attend anger-management counseling and outpatient substance-abuse treatment, submit to periodic urine monitoring, maintain gainful employment, submit to DNA typing and pay $105 in fines and penalties.
Pablo Echevarria Jr., 17, Landisville, Buena Boro
Charges: Three counts of
burglary.
Crime: Echevarria and a co-defendant burglarized a commercial establishment in Buena Vista Township on Nov. 5, 14 and 25, 2007.
Punishment: Probation for a year. Must attend Job Corp, receive a substance-abuse evaluation and comply with any recommendations, pay restitution, perform 30 hours of community service, have no contact with the victim or co-defendant, submit to DNA typing and pay $105 in fines and penalties.
Attuiyah Williams, 14, Atlantic City
Charge: Conspiracy to
commit robbery.
Crime: Williams and two
co-defendants agreed to assault an individual during the commission of a theft in Atlantic City on May 30.
Punishment: Probation for a year. Must attend the Juvenile Victim Impact and Rites of Passage programs, have no contact with the victim or co-defendants, pay restitution, submit to DNA typing and pay $45 in fines and penalties.
Nicholas Lucente, 17, Smithville
Charges: Aggravated assault and criminal mischief.
Crime: Lucente and a
co-defendant caused bodily injury to an individual May 12, while in possession of a weapon in Galloway Township. In addition, Lucente caused more than $500 in damages to a Galloway Township property.
Punishment: Probation until April 2010. Must maintain
gainful employment, pay restitution, submit to periodic urine monitoring, have no contact with the victims or co-defendant, submit to DNA typing and pay $75 in fines and penalties.
Brittni Slotterback, 17, Mays Landing
Charges: Aggravated assault on police officers and conspiracy to commit burglary.
Crime: Slotterback assaulted three Hamilton Township police officers May 5, as they performed their official duties. Slotterback also agreed with a co-defendant to burglarize a Hamilton Township residence.
Punishment: Probation for a year. Must attend anger-management counseling and the Juvenile Victim Impact Program, pay restitution, have no contact with the victims, submit to DNA typing and pay $45 in fines and penalties.
