ABSECON - The man accused of robbing the PNC Bank on the White Horse Pike was arrested Friday afternoon in Atlantic City, police said.
Terence B. McSweeney, 38, of Atlantic City was arrested at about 1 p.m. Friday in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue, police said. He was charged with bank robbery and taken to the Atlantic County Jail on $20,000 cash bail.
McSweeney allegedly entered the PNC Bank on Route 30 at about 1:15 p.m. Thursday, and while holding a cell phone to his right ear, passed a note to the teller demanding money, police said. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and fled east on the White Horse Pike in a silver car.
Police said they learned McSweeney's identity and that he was in Atlantic City on Friday. Atlantic City police made the arrest and found McSweeney was carrying some of the money that had been taken from the bank, police said.
Detective Robert Ponzetti and Special Agent Joseph Furey of the FBI investigated the case.
McSweeney served two terms in prison for theft by deception, credit card fraud, weapons offenses and forgery, according to the state Department of Corrections Web site. He was last released in February 2002.
