Atlantic City Police are searching for the suspect in a sexual assault that occurred about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the incident happened when a 22-year-old Pennsylvania woman was walking alone on the Boardwalk toward Ventnor from the Trump Plaza Hotel Casino Beach Bar.

According to police, an unknown male wearing blue jeans and a bright orange collared shirt attempted to befriend the woman and "lure her off the Boardwalk." She told him to leave her alone, police said.

As the victim neared Elberon Avenue, she was "lifted up from behind and forcibly taken off the Boardwalk onto the beach where the assault occurred," police said. She told police she was able to strike the assailant in the face during the attack. People walking nearby were alerted to the incident because the victim yelled for help.

Witnesses of the crime told police the suspect ran eastbound on the Boardwalk when they told him they were calling police.

Anyone with information is urged to call police at 609-347-5766. Additionally, people can call Crimestoppers anonymously at 609-652-1234.
