Atlantic County spokeswoman Linda Gilmore said Sunday afternoon that the county is not distributing gas to members of the public, putting an end to online rumors.
Gilmore said that, despite what posts on social media sites such as Twitter are saying, members of the public cannot get gas, free or otherwise, at the county's Anthony Canale Training Center on English Creek Avenue in Egg Harbor Township.
Gilmore said hundreds of people have been showing up at the center after hearing the rumor.
"It's completely false,"" she said of the gas rumor. "That is not true."
