Another dead dolphin was discovered in the bay near the Margate Bridge on Monday morning.

Robert Schoelkopf, director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, said the dolphin is the 60th to be found dead in New Jersey since July 9. Another dolphin was found dead in Brighton Beach, Ocean County, on Sunday.

The dolphin found Monday was taken for testing at the lab. Schoelkopf said there is no estimate for the cause of death.

The deaths have been declared an “unusual mortality event” by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration because of the significant number of dolphins found between New York and Virginia.
