ABSECON - A driver struck an Egg Harbor City woman on her bicycle Thursday evening at Pitney Road and Hobart Avenue, police say.

Margaret Avagliano, 50, was riding south on Pitney when she was hit by a Lincoln Town Car driven by Franklin Jones, 58, of Absecon, at 7:42 p.m. Jones had stopped at the intersection but struck Avagliano with his car as he began to inch into the crossing, Sgt. Robert Ponzetti said.

Avagliano was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, in Atlantic City, but her injuries were not life-threatening, Ponzetti said. Jones was cited for failure to stop or yield at an intersection.

Traffic was diverted around the intersection for about 30 minutes, Ponzetti said. The accident remains under investigation, and anyone with information can call 609-641-0667.
