A former Absecon police dispatch supervisor was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in state prison for killing a pedestrian in a 2015 Galloway Township crash.
Richard Doherty, 36, of Pleasantville, was accused in the Feb. 6, 2015, motor vehicle crash that killed Alfonso Dickerson, 29, of Galloway Township.
Dickerson died after he was hit walking south along Tilton Road near Aloe Street about 1:30 a.m. Doherty was found to be driving while intoxicated and taken into custody. He was released on bail, then arrested on a charge of aggravated manslaughter Feb 20, 2015. He was suspended from his job without pay shortly after the arrest.
Doherty was indicted by a grand jury July 22. He has been in the Atlantic County jail in lieu of $200,000 full cash bail.
He must serve 10 years and 2 months of the sentence before he is eligible for parole, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said.
