If possible, residents should first register with FEMA and get a case number, FEMA spokesman Michael McCormack said. With that number, the center can talk with a specialist about specific issues.

There are three ways to apply for FEMA assistance: online at, via smartphone at or by phone at 800-621-3362. People with speech or hearing disabilities may call TTY 800-462-7585.

Other area centers remain open, including sites at the Atlantic City Convention Center, Cape May Court House library and the Public Safety Building in Bridgeton.
