Business: KinHairitage Salon & Spa
Location: 6167 Harding Highway, Suite 8, Mays Landing (next to Mays Landing Diner)
Owner: Victoria Shelton, 31, of Pleasantville
The new KinHairitage in Mays Landing is a little more multicultural than our Pleasantville location.
We still specialize in natural hair care, but in that area, there is a more ethnic diversity among our clients, so we welcome all hair types. We still don’t do anything that would alter your natural hair textures.
We also offer hair coloring and hair cutting for women. We also do waxing and eyelash extensions.
We have a barber at the Mays Landing salon, so we do barbering. For men, we offer coloring, clipper cuts, scissor cuts, fades and shape-ups.
Then we have our natural services, such as our Locs hairstyle and Loc extensions also made of natural hair.
We do curly hair cutting, part of our natural hair care and styling.
The salon is about 1,500 square feet with an open floor plan with four stations, including a shampoo area and a waxing station.
Natural hair care is growing in this area. More people are aware of the health of their hair. Over the years, the harsh chemicals people use will take a toll on their hair.
We offer a relaxer-free environment. We work with a lot of people who have transitioned to natural hair, growing out their chemically straightened hair.
We give a free consultation on how to go natural. For 10 minutes, we go over the information and tell the client the best solutions for them.
On the first Wednesday of each month, we offer natural hair seminars, where people can also learn about products and their ingredients. For a group seminar, the cost is $15 per person; for one-on-one, it’s $25.
As at our Pleasantville salon, we use products by Paul Mitchell, Nioxin, ShidaNatural’s, as well as Kinky Curly products.
Walk-ins are welcome or customers can make an appointment.
Entry: Right out of technical school I was licensed to do hair care and I started working at Sonny’s barbershop in Atlantic City.
My client list grew and I needed my own location, so I opened in Pleasantville in 2007.
Last year, I added KinHairitage Barber Shop next to the salon in Pleasantville.
The future: Our next step would be to open in another state. We get a lot of requests to open in New York and Maryland.
