Linwood residents now have access to emergency alerts via text and email through a new Web-based service.
A discussion in preparation for Hurricane Sandy at the City Council meeting Wednesday shed light on the lack of available avenues for residents with mobile devices to receive emergency notifications.
The city released a statement Friday to inform residents of the new system and how they can sign up for it.
“The Nixle Community Information Service allows us to create and publish messages to be delivered to subscribed residents instantly via cellphone text message and/or email. Notifications can also be accessed online at Nixle’s website at www.nixle.com,” the statement said.
Alerts will include information about weather, road closings, missing persons and other safety information.
