Guadagno in Mays Landing

New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno speaks Thursday to John Kurtz, owner of County Seat Florist in Mays Landing, and Arlene Blosch, event coordinator with the Mays Landing Merchants' Association. They are joined by Amy Gatto, at right, mayor of Hamilton Township.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno swung through downtown Mays Landing on Thursday as part of her late-summer statewide business tour.

She arrived at Ye Olde Mill Street Pub a little after 3 p.m., greeting officials who included all five Hamilton Township committeemen and Atlantic County Freeholder Chair-man Frank Formica.

Inside, Guadagno listened to owner Soteria Roumbas, 73, describe how business is difficult because prices keep rising. Roumbas complained that she had no luck getting recovery assistance from last June’s derecho thunderstorms, which knocked out power to her restaurant for a week.

“I lost everything,” Roumbas said. Hurricane Sandy, by comparison, only cut power for a day.

Guadagno referred her to Nancy C. Belonzi, a “business advocate” with the state’s Business Action Center, who accompanied Guadagno.

Other planned stops included County Seat Florist, Riordan’s Canine Boutique and Grooming Salon, and a roundtable discussion at Cousin Mario’s restaurant.

Today, Guadagno’s schedule includes stops at businesses in Ocean City, Margate and Brigantine.
