Louis Lopez, 44, of Atlantic City, is accused of stabbing Craig Giatto, 42, to death inside an abandoned and boarded up building on Arctic Avenue in Atlantic City. Lopez is charged with manslaughter. It is the 11th homicide in the city this year, and the 16th in the county.
Giatto also has a criminal history, which dates to at least 1993, and includes serving nearly eight months in prison on a possession of a handgun charge. He was released Dec. 27, 2007. Most of his arrests were out of Ocean, Burlington and Camden counties, but he was in the Atlantic County Justice Facility last month for a disorderly persons assault charge, jail records there show. He was released Aug. 8. Giatto was born in Ohio, court records show. At one point he was living in Orange Park, Fla., but the most recent address he gave was Medford, Burlington County.
