The Republican and Democrat candidates for New Jersey’s 2nd Legislative District will face off in a debate Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. at Dante Hall in Atlantic City.

Democratic state Sen. James Whelan will face challenger and Atlantic County Sheriff Frank Balles. Republican Assemblymen John Amodeo and Chris Brown will debate challengers Longport Mayor Nick Russo and Northfield Mayor Vince Mazzeo.

The event is sponsored by The Press of Atlantic City and the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Richard Stockton College.

Additional debates are scheduled for the candidates of the 1st District on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Old Courthouse in Middle Township and the 9th District at 6 p.m. Oct. 23 at Richard Stockton College’s Campus Center Theatre.
