GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — A woman was struck and killed by a train Saturday night while walking on the railroad right of way near Genoa Avenue, NJ Transit officials said.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder said the victim, whose name was not released, was fatally injured about 10:10 p.m. when she was struck by an NJ Transit train heading north from Atlantic City to Philadelphia in the vicinity of the Atlantic City International Airport.

None of the crew or the 70 passengers aboard the train was injured, she said. Service on the line was suspended while NJ Transit police investigated the accident.

Passengers were diverted by bus to their destination.

Snyder said the victim apparently was trespassing in the railroad right of way when she was hit.
