A pair of Democratic mayors plan to run for the General Assembly in the 2nd Legislative District, according to a release from Atlantic County Democrats.
Vince Mazzeo and Nick Russo, the mayors of Northfield and Longport respectively, plan to formally announce their intentions at an event Monday, at 5 p.m. in front of the former Pathmark supermarket in Egg Harbor Township’s Cardiff Power Center. The 2nd District includes most of Atlantic County.
Mazzeo is one of the owners of Northfield’s B.F. Mazzeo market, and has been in Northfield’s municipal government since 2003.
Russo is a former detective with the state Attorney General's Office and was first elected in Longport in 2008.
They would run with Sen. Jim Whelan, D-Atlantic. The current Republican Assemblymen, John Amodeo and Chris Brown, are expected to seek reelection.
