Some cuts have already been made, but Northfield Mayor Vince Mazzeo said that the city still has a way to go in cutting $517,000 from its 2010 municipal budget.

At a special budget meeting Tuesday night, Mazzeo said the Northfield Police Department's budget was cut by about $120,000. A planned purchase of a car has been delayed, overtime has been cut back and a special officer's hours have been cut in half, Mazzeo said.

Including other cuts that Mazzeo did not want to provide details on yet, the amount that the city is over the state-mandated cap is about $340,000.

The city is holding another budget meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, one hour before its regular meeting.
