An Egg Harbor Township man pleaded guilty to theft Monday, admitting that he stole thousands of dollars from the Somers Point Volunteer Fire Company while he was a volunteer, according to the Atlantic County prosecutor.

Wayne Bailey, 53, wrote several checks to himself from the fire company’s House Committee account. Bailey, who was the chairman of the House Committee and Bar Committee, also took an undisclosed amount of cash from the company’s bar, according to a release from Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain.

On Sept. 21, Bailey will be sentenced to probation and required to pay $25,000. He will have to leave his position as Fire Inspector in Somers Point and dispatcher in Ventnor.
