A motor vehicle stop for speeding in Atlantic City led to a gun arrest this morning.

Officers Anthony Abrams and Brian Hambrecht pulled over a car at Ohio and Caspian avenues at about 3 a.m., and asked the driver, Zebedee Bishop, for his license.

"He appeared nervous," Capt. Charles Love said, reading from the report. "He advised them his license was suspended."

When Bishop got out of the vehicle, the officers saw a small black Glock .27 handgun sticking out from under the driver's seat, according to the report.

Bishop was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Bishop's previous crimes include a 2009 guilty plea to theft by deception in Salem County, court records show. He served 154 days in jail for that.

Forensics recovered the gun, which was loaded, Love said. Bishop was also given motor vehicle citations for careless driving and driving with a suspended license.

He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $100,000 bail.

Bishop was badly wounded in an apparent shootout in September 2011.

After dozens of gunshots were heard at about 11:30 p.m. Sept. 16, 2011, Bishop was found on the 1300 block of Caspian Avenue. He was bleeding heavily from a thigh wound that appeared to have nicked his femoral artery, police said at the time.

Also wounded that night was Carlos Woodall, who is currently jailed with several others charged with murder in the Nov. 20, 2011 killing of Corleone Hayes. He has pleaded not guilty.
