Copper thieves are striking homes and businesses and police are asking for the public’s help catching them.

Police said the copper burglars have entered crawl spaces at homes on Ocean, Lotus, Spruce, Bates and East Miami avenues and Rose Lane.

On March 20, there was a report of three white males removing copper piping and aluminum wire from a construction site on Bayshore Road in the Villas, a new CVS store.

Police said the three suspects were seen leaving in a black pickup truck with a blue tarp over the bed. Thefts were investigated between March 18 and March 21.

Anybody with information can report it anonymously to the Safe Neighborhoods Tip Line at 609-886-1619, ext. 156, or Cape May County Crime Stoppers at 609-465-2800.
