CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE--County freeholders today may award a contract to a Camden-based company to operate the Cape May County Youth Shelter.

Freeholders may award a two-year contract to Center for Family Services Inc. for $340,000 the first year and $320,000 the second year. The company was one of five to bid on the proposal, which would privatize the youth shelter.

The issue is on the meeting agenda for this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at the freeholder's meeting room in the Crest Haven Complex.

The proposal to privatize the county-run shelter has been a controversial one, and employees who work at the shelter have expressed fear for their jobs.

Freeholders have said privatization is cheaper and the youth shelter is part of an ongoing review of county operations.
