Recyclers group
gives city award
Ocean City was recently recognized for outstanding achievement in recycling by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The award was presented at the Association of New Jersey Recyclers' 29th Annual Recycling Symposium and Awards Luncheon at the Sheraton Eatontown Hotel.
Through a variety of initiatives, Ocean City has continued to see an increase in its recycling rate in each of the past five years. The city has placed more than 150 recycling containers on the boardwalk, beaches, downtown, public buildings and parks. Additional efforts include recycling brochures that were distributed to residents and visitors, recognition awards given to businesses that did an exemplary job of recycling and a new enforcement program.
Ocean City is one of few communities in the state that provides twice-per-week recycling collection during the summer and weekly collection year-round. The city maintains a full-service recycling center off Tennessee Avenue that is open daily for use by city residents. In addition, electronic recycling services are provided periodically.
