Efforts to save the Ludlam Beach Lighthouse in Sea Isle City came to an end Tuesday afternoon, as workers with heavy equipment demolished the 1885-vintage beacon, WMGM-TV 40 reported.

The lighthouse was most recently part of a rental unit at 35th Street and Landis Avenue, but the owner of the building didn't want it there anymore. The land will be converted into three townhouses.

WMGM-TV video showed front-end loaders and other pieces of equipment pulling the building apart Tuesday afternoon.
