Motel room raid leads to drug arrests in Middle Township

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP - Authorities arrested a 35-year-old township man Friday after raiding his Rio Grande motel room and seizing drugs and cash, according to township police and the county Prosecutor's Office.

The arrest was part of a four-month undercover narcotics investigation, authorities said.

The Cape May County Regional SWAT Team, the Prosecutor's Office, the Sheriff's Department and Middle Township police executed a search warrant at Room 115 at the Shelton Motel in Rio Grande.

Police seized 2.5 ounces of cocaine with a street value of $3,000, 58 prescription pills worth about $1,800 and a small amount of heroin, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

In a statement, Prosecutor Robert Taylor said more than $10,000 in cash was seized, as well as manufacturing and packaging materials.

Jason Miller, 35, of 1410 Route 47 in Rio Grande, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with intent to distribute, as well as possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

Middle Township Municipal Court Judge George Neidig set bail at $50,000 cash.
